Axe Throwing Venues We’ve Personally Visited (And Would Go Back)
From New England to Hawaii, these are a few axe throwing venues that stood out—not because they’re perfect, but because they deliver a great experience.
Every shirt has a story. These are a few of ours.
We’ve had the chance to visit axe throwing venues across the country—from New England to Hawaii. These are a few that stood out to us—not because they’re perfect, but because they deliver a great experience.
Every place does things a little differently, but the common thread is simple: when the energy is right and the setup works, people have a blast.
If you’re looking to experience axe throwing closer to home, you can always grab a lane and throw at Axe Play—but this page is about the places that helped shape how we see the experience.
What Makes a Great Axe Throwing Venue?
After visiting axe throwing venues across the country, a few things consistently stand out when the experience is done right:
Clean, well-designed spaces
The layout matters more than people think. When lanes are well-lit and the space flows naturally, it sets the tone right away.
Coaches who guide, not control
The best experiences happen when staff are there when you need them—but don’t take over the session.
A setup that works for everyone
Whether it’s someone throwing for the first time or someone who’s done it before, the experience should feel accessible without losing its edge.
The right balance of structure and freedom
That’s especially true for something like a date night, where the experience matters just as much as the activity itself.
That combination is what turns axe throwing from something you try once into something you come back for. Experience it for yourself.
Competitive Atmosphere
This was our first out-of-state tournament, and it didn’t disappoint. The energy in the room, the level of competition, and the people running it all stood out right away.
It gave us a real appreciation for how strong a competitive scene can be when it’s done right—and yeah… we got humbled a bit. But that’s part of it.
Owner-Driven Experience
This turned into more than just throwing for an hour. The space was large, clean, well-lit, and full of energy—but what really made it stand out was the people.
We spent more time talking with the owners than actually throwing—sharing ideas about running a venue, adding a bar, and even mobile units. Those kinds of conversations stick with you.
Atmosphere + Bar Experience
Being in Hawaii already puts you in a different mindset, but this place made it feel familiar in the best way. Great atmosphere, strong drink selection, and a setup that just worked.
We ended up connecting with the manager and swapping info—one of those small world moments that came full circle back to New England.
Unique Experience
This is easily the most unique location we’ve seen—inside Area 15, where the energy starts before you even walk in.
The lanes were clean and well-lit, but what really stood out was the game system. A tablet-based setup with different games added a whole new layer to the experience—and yeah, the ability to send scores afterward made it even better.
We ended up talking shop with the assistant manager, which later led to learning more about the system behind it—and realizing just how connected this industry really is.
High Energy / Fun Factor
This place brought the energy. Loud, fun, and built for a good time.
The axe throne alone tells you what kind of experience you’re walking into—and yeah, there were definitely some bragging rights claimed here.
Overall Experience
This is one of the most complete setups we’ve seen. From the moment you walk in, everything feels dialed in—lighting, layout, and overall flow.
Our coach, Quincy, brought a ton of personality and made the experience better without taking it over. We ended up in a full-on match… and if there was a wall of shame, we probably earned a spot on it. But it was a blast.
The California Experience
This visit had a different feel than some of the others, but it still delivered where it counts. The space leaned more toward a high-energy environment, with plenty going on around you and a crowd that kept things lively.
What stood out was the freedom to just throw and enjoy the session without interruption. With the right group, that setup turns into a great time—and that’s exactly what we made of it.
Where It Started
A quick look back at where we first discovered axe throwing.
Relaxe Throwing
This is where it all started for us. Back in 2020, before Axe Play was even an idea, we brought a group out and realized how much fun axe throwing could be.
It wasn’t about perfect lanes or polished systems—it was about the experience. The laughs, the competition, and just being in it with your friends.
That stuck with us, and it’s a big part of what led to everything we’ve built since.
